Lawrence A. Levy represents large insurance companies in complex coverage disputes including toxic tort, asbestos, environmental, directors and officers, and errors and omissions claims.

Larry has focused his practice on insurance coverage litigation for almost 30 years, managing every aspect of litigation, from discovery to motion practice, and from trials to appeals. Larry also has successfully resolved insurance coverage disputes through mediation, and he routinely advises leading insurers regarding matters involving insurance coverage law.

Larry has achieved many significant victories for Rivkin Radler’s clients, including notable rulings on allocation and defense costs issues. For instance, in Mine Safety Appliances Co. v. AIU Ins. Co., 2014 Del. Super. LEXIS 49 (Del. Super. Ct. Jan. 21, 2014), the Delaware trial court held that an insurer had no obligation to pay the defense costs for an alleged tortfeasor. In CGS Indus. v. Charter Oak Fire Ins. Co., 720 F.3d 71 (2d Cir. 2013), the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit reversed a trial court’s decision that had held one of Rivkin Radler’s insurer clients liable for an insured’s settlement payment.

Larry served on the editorial board of the D&O Liability Litigation News and is a prolific author whose articles have appeared in Best’s Review, Mealey’s Emerging Insurance Disputes, the D&O Liability Litigation News, and the New York Law Journal.

While at St. John’s University School of Law, where he graduated cum laude, Larry served as executive notes and comments editor of the St. John’s Law Review, to which he also contributed articles.

Larry lives in the Village of Thomaston, New York, with his wife and two children, where he serves as chair of the Village Design Review Board and the Village Ethics Committee.

Since 2019, The Legal 500 has recommended Rivkin Radler’s Insurance Coverage practice in the insurance: advice to insurers category. The Insurance Coverage Practice Group since 2016 has been included in the Chambers USA directory in the Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Insurer category.
