Edwin applies his prior experience as a prosecutor to the investigation and discovery of insurance fraud. His passion for music and performance has taught him to think quickly on his feet. The skills he developed as a performer have translated into litigation – enhancing his ability to deliver oral arguments, present cases effectively, and achieve tangible results.
Edwin A. Maldonado is an associate in Rivkin Radler’s Insurance Fraud Practice Group. He focuses his practice on representing insurance carriers in complex no-fault and insurance defense matters, with a particular emphasis on fraud investigations.
His practice includes conducting in-depth investigations of medical providers—including physicians, chiropractors, pharmacies, durable medical equipment suppliers, and physical therapists—to evaluate the legitimacy of claims submitted to insurers.
He routinely conducts Examinations Under Oath (EUOs) of providers and other relevant parties to uncover fraudulent billing practices, improper referral arrangements, and other forms of insurance fraud.
In addition to his investigative work, he represents major insurance carriers in litigation and arbitration, where he defends against collection actions and advocates on behalf of insurers in disputed no-fault claims.
Before joining Rivkin Radler, Edwin served as a senior assistant district attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office. For nearly six years, Edwin prosecuted a wide array of misdemeanor and felony cases including weapons possession, sale of controlled substances, financial crimes, and felony-level assault. Before leaving the District Attorney’s Office, Edwin specialized in the prosecution of vehicular crimes ranging from felony driving while intoxicated to vehicular homicide.
Edwin handled all the phases of prosecution including criminal investigations, grand jury presentment, pre-trial evidentiary hearings, and trials. Over the course of his career as a prosecutor, Edwin litigated dozens of hearings and trials to verdict.
While a student at Syracuse University College of Law, Edwin served as a legal fellow in Washington, D.C., to U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
Edwin is a Long Island native and obtained his undergraduate degrees in anthropology and political science from Adelphi University.
