Jaffe, Honig and Antar Win Multi-Million Dollar Arbitration

March 18, 2022 | Construction

Ed Jaffe, Jeremy Honig and Mark Antar won a years-long construction arbitration, securing an award of approximately $4.5 million.

Rivkin represents a New York City general contractor which had contracted with a hedge fund billionaire for the renovation of his six-story Manhattan townhouse, including installation of a new sub-basement with a swimming pool. After almost four years of work on the project, our client was terminated “without cause.” Our client commenced an arbitration to recover its damages based on the termination, and the respondent asserted counterclaims that our client’s work was defective.

Rivkin successfully moved to dismiss these counterclaims. After multiple hearings, additional motion practice and several rounds of briefing, the three-arbitrator panel issued its Final Award and Opinion granting the relief sought in our initial 2018 demand for arbitration.

The award consisted of lost overhead and profit on the unexecuted work, insurance premiums, interest and fees.
