Rivkin Radler Welcomes Schwartz & Salomon to the Firm

September 10, 2019 | Trusts & Estates

Rivkin Radler LLP, one of the Northeast’s leading law firms, has bolstered its tax and trusts and estates capabilities with the addition of noted New York City firm Schwartz & Salomon, P.C., effective September 3.

The three Schwartz & Salomon attorneys have joined Rivkin Radler’s New York City Office: David Lobl, Lisa Procopio and Joseph Salomon.

“I am truly excited about joining Rivkin Radler,” said Salomon, Schwartz & Salomon’s former managing partner. “The merger enhances our resources and ability to provide a full range of services to our clients, given the firm’s 21 practice areas.”

Schwartz & Salomon was a successor firm to one that began in 1954. The general practice firm catered to privately held businesses and wealthy families, doing primarily trusts and estates work. Salomon joined the firm in 1987.

“We are delighted to welcome Joe, David and Lisa to the Rivkin Radler family,” said Rivkin Managing Partner Evan H. Krinick. “Their experience and excellent reputation with their clients are a great complement to our Trusts & Estates and Tax Practice Groups.”

The backgrounds of the three attorneys joining Rivkin Radler are below.

David Lobl, of Larchmont, NY, has joined the firm as Counsel in the Corporate, Real Estate, Zoning & Land Use and Trusts & Estates practice groups.  David focuses his practice on real estate transactions. His clients include buyers, owners and tenants of residential and commercial properties including condominiums and cooperative apartments. David also represents clients in a broad range of business, commercial and person matters. Additionally, David represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries in probate and administration proceedings including contested proceedings.

Lisa B. Procopio, of New York, NY, has joined the firm as Counsel in the Trusts & Estates practice group. Lisa’s practice focuses on estate and tax planning, estate and trust administration and corporate taxation. She works closely with clients and their families to create personalized and comprehensive multi-generational family estate plans, including the preparation of wills, trusts, trust decanting, and wealth transfer and charitable giving instruments, among other tools. Lisa advises clients and their families on all aspects of tax planning, including individual income taxes, corporate taxation, estate, gift and generation-skipping taxation as well as charitable estate and gift tax planning.

Joseph N. Salomon, of New York, NY, has joined the firm as Senior Counsel in the Tax and Trusts & Estates practice groups. Joe has practiced in the areas of trusts and estates and taxation for more than 30 years. His clients range from privately held companies, for whom he acts as a de facto general counsel, to wealthy families with a broad range of planning issues, to clients needing basic planning documents such as Wills and Trusts.  His tax practice spans a broad range of planning issues and controversies. He has guided the reorganization of corporations – both mergers and breakups – that resulted in no tax liability for either party. He “domesticated” several foreign real estate corporations to achieve favorable tax results. Drawing on his early experience as a corporate and securities litigator, Joe has successfully handled many tax audits including those involving valuation issues, and New York State domicile audits, which are becoming more prevalent as taxpayers move to other jurisdictions to reduce their exposure to state taxes.
