Karen practices in the areas of health care, tax exempt organizations, and labor and employment law. She has counseled a wide variety of health care clients including hospitals, hospices, adult homes, nursing homes, assisted living residences, health maintenance organizations, private physicians and practitioners, and regional health information organizations.
A partner in the firm’s Health Services practice group, Karen E. Sosler has extensive experience handling regulatory, corporate, and transactional matters relating to fraud and abuse laws; certificate of need applications; physician contracts; corporate and regulatory compliance; employment agreements; employee benefits; tax exemption applications; executive compensation; conflict of interest policies; information technology; privacy and confidentiality; electronic medical records issues; corporate mergers; sales and acquisitions; and tax exempt organizations.
Karen has lectured on various topics, including the federal Stark Law, New York public charities, tax-exempt status for corporations, HIPAA and the confidentiality of medical records.
While in law school, she was an editor of the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics.

Karen is a member of the American Health Law Association. She is also a board member of Wellspring, an organization that offers domestic violence and rape crisis services.
Karen received the 1999 Capital District Women’s Bar Association’s Pro Bono Service Award (The Legal Project), and in 2005, she received the Patron of the Arts Award from the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, where she is a past president.
Since 2016, the Health Services Practice Group has been recognized in the Chambers USA directory.
