John is an associate in the firm’s Trusts & Estates Practice Group.
He represents clients in complex federal, state, and local tax controversies, sophisticated tax planning matters, and domestic and cross‑border transactions for high‑net‑worth individuals, closely held businesses, and foreign and domestic entities.
John serves as counsel in tax audits, administrative appeals, and litigation before the U.S. Tax Court, federal district courts, and state and local tax tribunals. He guides clients through every phase of a dispute, from initial examination and information‑gathering through negotiated resolution and, when necessary, trial and appeal.
In addition to his tax controversy work, John advises on complex tax planning and compliance for corporate and real estate matters, helping clients structure transactions and entities to achieve tax‑efficient outcomes under U.S. and foreign tax regimes. His work includes preparing sophisticated income and gift tax returns for individuals, businesses, and trusts and estates, as well as drafting a range of agreements, including shareholders’ agreements, investment agreements, and purchase agreements.
John speaks and writes on tax issues affecting foreign investment, cross‑border transactions, and international taxation.
