On July 21, 2020, Aurelia Sanchez, a Bethpage resident and Rivkin Radler’s Assistant Librarian, received a Diversity in Business award from Long Island Business News. The a highlights the outstanding achievements of business leaders of diverse ethnic backgrounds and those with disabilities, who are dedicated to growing the diversity of Long Island’s business community.wards program

Bi-lingual in Spanish and English, Aurelia  has given her time and financial resources to helping Long Island’s disadvantaged communities through her involvement with Kids in Needs of Defense (KIND), The Safe Center LI, ERASE Racism and Children’s Aid Society NYC. In conjunction with KIND, she worked to help two children, who had fled from gang violence in Honduras, to stay in the U.S. She translated documents for them for over a year. Sadly, the matter remains unresolved.

In addition, she contacted Brooklyn Legal Services and Riseboro on behalf of elderly Hispanics in the Williamsburg section who were about to be displaced due to gentrification. Aurelia did the legal research on their behalf, put them in touch with free legal help at the Law Office of Nydia Velazquez and filled out the forms for them.

Finally, Aurelia works with The Safe Center LI as part of Rivkin Radler’s pro bono team, translating for Spanish-speaking clients of the nonprofit organization that helps victims of domestic abuse. She also has referred people in the Bethpage community (where she lives) to this organization.
