Albert W. Petraglia and Dennis Wiley will be presenting at the October 26-28, 2016 Fall Meeting of the Surrogate’s Association of the State of New York, held in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The Surrogate’s Association of the State of New York is comprised of Surrogate’s Court judges from all the counties of New York State, and many are expected to attend this year’s Fall Meeting.

Albert will be presenting “Murder Does Not Pay, at least not in Surrogate’s Court,” in which he will review recent case law and other topical developments concerning the ability of convicted murderers to inherit, either directly or indirectly, property from the estates of their victims and the eligibility of felons to act as estate fiduciaries.

Dennis will be presenting “The Historical Origins of Surrogate’s Court”, in which he will discuss in detail some of the interesting themes covered in his recent New York State Bar Association article, “What’s in a Name? That Which We Call Surrogate’s Court,” and the expansion of the New York probate court system from the colonization of New York by Dutch and English settlors through the early 20th century.
