Patricia Bober
AssociatePatricia Bober is an Associate in the Firm’s Insurance Fraud Practice Group. She assists private insurers in prosecuting civil lawsuits under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, including affirmative actions to recover insurer claim payments to those involved in complex, large-scale schemes premised on, among other unlawful activities, illicit financial arrangements and prescriptions or referrals for durable medical equipment, orthotic devices, pharmaceuticals, and various tests and procedures issued pursuant to fraudulent, pre-determined protocols. Patricia actively conducts examinations under oath of healthcare service providers to verify claims seeking reimbursement under New York’s No-Fault Laws.
Patricia received her Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law, graduating in the top 20% of her class. She served as a Notes Editor of the Hofstra Law Review and was recognized for providing more than 800 hours of pro bono work over the course of three years.
Throughout her law school career, Patricia gained valuable experience in several areas of the law. In the summer after her first year, she interned for the Honorable Francis Ricigliano at Nassau County Court where she observed pre-trial and court proceedings concerning, for example, prosecution of violent individuals affiliated with gangs and criminal organizations, second-degree murder and reckless endangerment charges based on prescription abuse, and police misconduct. The following summer, Patricia served as a Commercial Litigation Law Clerk at one of the largest law firms in Brooklyn where she focused on issues such as receiverships, PPP loan forgiveness and SBA audits, wrongful death statutes, property damage and insurance claims, and sustainable verdict values for medical injuries. In her final semester, Patricia served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Gerald Lebovits at New York State Supreme Court where she prepared pre-argument reports by describing the motions and applicable law, analyzing parties’ arguments, and recommending dispositions. In addition, her article, “Redefining the Lawyer’s Role in Calls for a Dignified Death”, was selected for publication in the Hofstra Law Scholarly Commons. It analyzes the history and legality of physician-assisted death by discussing international and domestic laws, United States Supreme Court jurisprudence, and ethical considerations posed by client-patient autonomy, competence, informed consent, and the death penalty.
As the daughter of a political refugee from Poland, Patricia also devoted half of her time in law school to helping those who seek a better life in the United States through her work with the Hofstra Asylum Clinic. She provided a variety of legal services for refugees from Caribbean, Central and South American, Middle Eastern, and African countries, including holding weekly meetings with clients to develop their claims, conducting mock interviews to obtain necessary information to draft affidavits and country conditions exhibits, and delivering summations during clients’ interviews at the USCIS New York and Chicago Asylum Offices.
Patricia graduated cum laude from Fordham University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Theology. Because of her academic success, she was invited to join Pi Sigma Alpha and Theta Alpha Kappa, the respective national honor societies of her disciplines. During her undergraduate studies, she volunteered on a successful U.S. presidential campaign, interned for former U.S. Congressman Lee Zeldin, and worked on various local and state political campaigns in administrative and outreach positions. She also served as an executive officer of an international company specializing in consumer electronics and attended several events on the company’s behalf, including the High Point Furniture Market in North Carolina and the Consumer Electronics Show in Nevada.
