With experience in litigation across a variety of fields, Karelis brings curiosity and a strategic approach to her practice. Naturally inquisitive, she asks thoughtful questions to understand the issues at the heart of each matter, considers complex concepts from different angles, and breaks them down into clear, understandable terms.
Karelis Albornoz is an associate (pending admission) in the firm’s Insurance Fraud & Recovery Practice Group.
Karelis previously served as a certified legal intern in the Felony Division of the State Attorney’s Office in Tallahassee, a judicial intern with the Florida Division of Administrative Hearings, and a Senior Legal Assistant in the Prosecution Services Unit of the Florida Department of Health.
She graduated summa cum laude from Florida State University with a B.A. in English Literature, and received her J.D. from Florida State University College of Law, where she served as president of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF), Executive Editor of the FSU Business Review, and a member of the Trial Team. She competed in five trial advocacy competitions, earning finalist in the Wayne Hogan Intramural Competition and semifinalist in the Georgetown White Collar Crime Competition. After her second year, Karelis was a summer associate at Rivkin Radler, gaining experience across several of the firm’s practice areas.
During her final year of law school, Karelis received the Book Award for earning the highest grade in Criminal Procedure: Police and the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Animal Law Section of The Florida Bar for her contributions to SALDF. She also received the Distinguished Pro Bono Service designation for her commitment to pro bono service.
Prior to law school, Karelis briefly taught elementary school, an experience that strengthened her confidence and communication skills.
In her free time, she enjoys planning events, spending time with her family and dogs, and playing tennis.
