Craig finds satisfaction in practicing intellectual property, where he combines his passion for business and technology. He approaches his work by applying scientific principles as evidence in legal reasoning, while building strong client relationships to gain an understanding of their objectives.
Craig Svoboda has over 30 years’ experience handling and managing patent prosecution, portfolio strategy, freedom to operate, IP diligence and negotiating IP related transactions in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
Craig brings extensive experience as a senior in-house IP counsel. Previously, he was Global Head of Intellectual Property at Alvotech, a global biosimilar company, where he directed the company’s patent portfolio strategy, invention harvesting, and pre-litigation IP risk mitigation during product development. Prior to Alvotech, he was the sole IP-Counsel at Indivior, where he managed the patent and trademark portfolio to strengthen gaps resulting from ongoing litigation, as well as managing the IP matters associated with the company transactions and 505(b)(2) product development activities. Earlier roles included Genentech and Hoechst Marion Roussel, where he provided patent landscaping, freedom to operate, patent prosecution, invention harvesting, and negotiated IP transactions, while developing deep technical expertise in both biologics and small molecules.
Craig’s in-house focus has honed his ability to build strong relationships with clients and ensures that his legal advice is not only insightful but practical, actionable, and aligned with business goals. This combined experience gives Craig a unique perspective for building and evaluating effective IP strategies.
Craig has spoken at domestic and international conferences about IP portfolio management and prosecution strategies.
