For more than 40 years, Burton has practiced in the field of landlord-tenant law. He has represented hundreds of commercial owners, developers, and tenants in litigation and transactional matters.
Burton Ross has represented clients in courts throughout New York City and in Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties. He represents landlords in the Bankruptcy Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He has tried hundreds of non-jury and jury trials, and represented parties in arbitrations, appraisal proceedings and mediations. He has prepared and argued numerous appeals in the Appellate Divisions of the Supreme Court of the State of New York for the First and Second Department, and prepared and argued Bankruptcy Court appeals before the U.S. District Court.
With extensive experience representing commercial landlords and tenants, Burton has negotiated and prepared net leases for commercial properties, lofts and office buildings, representing clients in the leasing of restaurants, telecommunications facilities, artist galleries, medical facilities, and retail stores.
As a result of his litigation and leasing experience, Burton has developed extensive knowledge of New York City’s building and fire codes and is well-versed in the operations of the New York City Department of Buildings.
Burton also represents clients involved in shareholder, partnership, membership, and tenancy-in-common disputes. In addition, he has represented clients in complex building ownership disputes.
