LabCorp Offers Self-Directed Blood Testing (but not in NY/NJ)

July 24, 2019 | Eric D. Fader | Home Health | Medical Devices and Wearables

LabCorp announced on July 22 that it is now offering blood tests directly to consumers online. The clinical lab giant’s “Pixel by LabCorp” platform previously offered self-directed test kits for colorectal cancer and diabetes screening, as well as lipid panels. The service is not currently offered in New York, New Jersey, Maryland or Rhode Island.

Online consumers can select from 25 different test packages covering 90 different lab tests. After buying a package, a consumer will see a phlebotomist at one of the nearly 2,000 LabCorp patient service centers to provide a specimen, with test results available within a few days through an online portal. Available test packages include heart, diabetes, kidney, thyroid and hormone tests.

Test costs are out-of-pocket for consumers with insurance company reimbursement unlikely. If a test result suggests the need for prompt medical attention, the consumer will be contacted by a physician.
