Healthcare: The Next Frontier

A March 1 article in Long Island Business News entitled “Healthcare: The next frontier” discussed the issues raised at a recent roundtable discussion on the current state of the healthcare industry. The panel included Rivkin Radler partners Robert Iseman and Benjamin Malerba; Dr. Zeyad Baker, ProHEALTH Care Associates’ president and CEO; Jeffrey Kraut, executive vice president of strategy and analytics at Northwell Health; and Dr. Simon Prince, president and CEO of PRINE Health.

The group discussed the difficulties in providing care to individuals who lack health insurance, the challenges presented by an aging population, and the imbalance of power between hospitals and doctors. A key question is whether hospital systems or large physician groups will be better positioned to “drive the bus” (i.e., lead the delivery of patient care) as the marketplace shifts toward value-based payment methodologies in coming years.
