During the COVID-19 pandemic, substance abuse providers turned to telemedicine to provide needed services to their patients. However, substance abuse providers were still subject to federal confidentiality regulations, known as the Part 2 Regulations. In light of the change in practice, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration issued clarifying guidance on how to comply with these regulations but left it to providers to determine when a bona fide emergency had occurred. During this presentation, the presenter will explain special considerations in complying with the Part 2 Regulations when practicing telemedicine, including an exploration of the exceptions to the regulations.
