Richard A. Mitchell concentrates his practice in the areas of healthcare, corporate and transactional matters, as well as banking, bankruptcy, creditors’ rights and workouts.
Rick’s healthcare practice includes representation of physicians with respect to practice formation, choice of entity, governance, employment agreements and regulatory compliance. He has negotiated exclusivity and recruiting agreements as well as other contracts with hospitals, and has represented healthcare clients in mergers and acquisitions.
His bankruptcy practice includes representation of major banks and corporations as lenders, both secured and unsecured, in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 cases throughout New York. He has handled bankruptcies in such diverse fields as construction, healthcare and retail.
A lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, Rick was the Dutchess County representative of the New York State Judicial Screening Committee from 1992 to 1998. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Commercial Law League and the Federal Bar Council.
Currently, he is chair of Family Services, Inc. He is a former board chair and campaign chair for the United Way of Dutchess County and is past president of the Community Foundation of Dutchess.
Rick is a past director of the Vassar Brothers Hospital Foundation, Bardavon 1869 Opera House and the Dutchess County Boy Scout Council, a past president of the Dutchess County Chapter of the American Heart Association and a past member of the New York State Board of the American Heart Association.
