Jeffrey Murphy is an associate in Rivkin Radler’s Compliance, Investigations & White Collar and Insurance Fraud Practice Groups.
Jeff helps insurers prosecute civil lawsuits under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, including affirmative actions to recover insurer claim payments to physicians, medical clinics, attorneys, public adjusters, and others involved in complex, large scale insurance fraud schemes.
Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Jeff was an associate in a large national law firm’s product liability practice group. Jeff’s practice involved defending product manufacturers, distributors, and retailers in product liability cases across the United States and internationally. Jeff handled cases in Federal and state courts throughout the country, and has extensive experience litigating in various forums at all stages of a claim. He represented international manufacturers of bicycles, bidets, dehumidifiers, furniture, pressure cookers and other products against property damage and personal injury claims.
Additionally, Jeff served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Tort Division of the New York City Law Department, where he represented the city in matters involving premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, school supervision, municipal law and police actions. He conducted and defended countless depositions and gained extensive trial and civil litigation experience while representing the City of New York. In addition, he wrote and successfully argued motions to dismiss claims in New York Supreme Court.
Jeff served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office where he prosecuted felonies and misdemeanors, including felony DWI, possession of narcotics, fraud, larceny and a range of other criminal offenses from investigations, grand jury, pleas, trials to sentencing. Jeff was a frequent lecturer to high school students and parents at numerous high schools throughout Nassau County as part of the District Attorney’s “Choices and Consequences Program”, teaching about the dangers of drunk driving through actual cases that he prosecuted.
Jeff was a recipient of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Award for Recognition of Excellence for his dedication and service to the mission of MADD.
Jeff graduated, cum laude, from Albany Law School. While there he was an associate editor for the Albany Law Review and participated in a year-long field placement with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.
