Jason B. Gurdus concentrates his practice on insurance coverage litigation and commercial litigation, as well as related counseling.

Jason represents insurance and reinsurance companies with respect to all aspects of insurance coverage litigation, arbitrations, mediations and client counseling. He has obtained numerous significant legal victories in state and federal courts throughout New York and the country. He has also successfully reached early resolutions on many complex insurance coverage cases for some of the nation’s largest insurers. Jason advises insurers throughout the country on coverage issues arising out of bodily injury, property damage, personal and advertising injury, professional liability, stop loss, and environmental and toxic torts. Jason is the current Chair of the Insurance Law Committee for the Nassau County Bar Association.

Beyond his insurance coverage practice, Jason has experience litigating various types of commercial matters. As part of his commercial litigation practice, Jason assists owners and contractors in various construction disputes relating to contract negotiation, payment and performance issues, and delay claims. He also represents owners and contractors in connection with the filing of mechanic’s liens.

In addition, Jason has experience litigating and providing counsel on issues relating to trademark and copyright infringement. He also has experience in the prosecution of trademarks and service marks before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

While at Hofstra University School of Law, Jason was an associate editor of the Hofstra Law Review and his often cited article, Protection Off of the Playing Field: Student Athletes Should Be Considered University Employees for Purposes of Workers’ Compensation, was published at 29 Hofstra L. Rev. 907 (2001).

Since 2019, The Legal 500 has recommended Rivkin Radler’s Insurance Coverage practice in the insurance: advice to insurers category. The Insurance Coverage Practice Group since 2016 has been included in the Chambers USA directory in the Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Insurer category.
