Howard M. Merkrebs has tried dozens of cases to verdict over the course of almost 25 years in practice. He has successfully defended complex lawsuits involving medical and dental malpractice, negligence claims against nursing/rehabilitation care facilities, and toxic tort actions such as lead paint, asbestos, and chemical exposures. Howard also has considerable expertise defending pharmaceutical, general premises, vehicular accident, and construction site accident liability cases, as well as actions under the New York Labor Law.

Howard is particularly experienced in defending claims against health care services providers, including major teaching hospitals and their staffs, attending physicians in virtually every medical specialization, registered nurses, and physicians’ assistants.

A member of the Defense Research Institute, Howard frequently lectures to institutional clients on issues such as New York civil practice and trial procedure, medical malpractice, and guidelines for compliance with statutory liens, including Medicare and Workers’ Compensation.

In addition to his work on behalf of the firm’s clients, Howard is active in his community, where he serves on the Board of Trustees for, and provides pro bono counsel to, his local synagogue.
