George D. KappusPartner
George D. Kappus represents clients in all phases of federal and state court civil litigation.
In particular, George represents insurance carriers in the litigation and arbitration of complex insurance coverage disputes involving environmental and toxic tort losses. He also advises carriers on the analysis and negotiation of pre-litigation settlement of similar claims.
Over the course of his career, George has successfully defended and resolved dozens of claims involving eight and nine-figure exposures. He also actively defends non-insurer clients in commercial litigation.
Before joining Rivkin Radler, George was a member of the legal staff at General Motors Corporation, where he represented the company and its subsidiaries and managed outside counsel in all phases of civil litigation in federal and state courts. During his tenure with General Motors, George focused on product liability, class action, and consumer and commercial credit matters and represented the company in antitrust, commercial, labor, and employment discrimination litigation.
The Insurance Coverage Practice Group since 2016 has been included in the Chambers USA directory in the Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Insurer category. In 2019, the well-respected Legal 500 recommended Rivkin Radler’s Insurance Coverage practice in the insurance: advice to insurers category.
