Andrew (Andy) Berks was a seasoned patent attorney with a comprehensive approach to intellectual property law. With over 17 years of professional experience, he distinguished himself through a client-centric practice that prioritizes personal relationships and a deep understanding of each client’s unique business objectives.

Specializing in chemistry and life sciences, Andy offered an expansive range of patent-related services. His expertise spanned strategic patent counseling, drafting and prosecution, patent appeals, AIA trials, litigation, enforcement actions, licensing, research agreements, and specialized areas like biosimilars and Hatch-Waxman strategies. Despite his primary focus on chemistry and life sciences, he successfully handled patent matters across diverse technical domains.

Andy’s international patent practice was particularly robust. He assisted clients in securing patent protection not just in the United States, but globally, with proven success in obtaining patents in countries including Canada, Australia, China, Korea, Mexico, and throughout Europe. He  developed a notable practice representing foreign applicants at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

An active thought leader in his field, Andy regularly contributed to the patent law community through blogs, public speaking, and publications. He was well-connected in the patent attorney communities of New York and nationally, consistently sharing insights on legal and technical topics.

His credentials reflect his comprehensive legal and scientific background. Licensed in New York and New Jersey, as well as with the USPTO and federal courts, Andy brought both academic and practical expertise to his practice.

He held a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Colorado and a law degree from Fordham Law School, where he served as an associate editor of the Intellectual Property, Media, and Entertainment Law Journal.
