Riverso Quoted in Long Island Business News

August 22, 2016 | Commercial Litigation | Construction

Pia Riverso was quoted in a recent Long Island Business News article entitled, “Taking Coverage.” Pia warns that many contractors and property owners do not realize they lack adequate coverage.

“In order to ensure that the proper coverage is in place, the policy must have an endorsement giving the contractor blanket additional insured coverage, or enabling the contractor to name other parties as additional insureds. Most construction contracts require that the contractor’s insurance is primary to and non-contributory with the owner’s insurance, so if there is an injury or damage to property, the contractor’s insurance would pay the claim in the first instance. But if the contract doesn’t require the contractor’s insurance to be the primary, there will be issues of who will defend the claim.”
