Judge Hart Memorial Scholarship Presented to Two Hofstra Law Students

Rivkin Radler Partner, Michael Troisi, has presented the Judge Edward J. Hart Memorial Scholarship for Trial Advocacy to Kaitlyn Flynn and Jana McNulty, recent graduates of Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University.

The Judge Edward J. Hart Memorial Scholarship for Trial Advocacy was created in honor of Edward Hart, a distinguished judge and accomplished trial lawyer, who was a partner at Rivkin Radler before being elected to the bench of the New York State Supreme Court and later appointed by the Governor to a Judgeship in the Appellate Division inBrooklyn.  When Judge Hart passed away in 1996, Rivkin Radler created a scholarship in his name for Hofstra Law Students.  Each year, the firm provides the $2,500.00 scholarship to a student or students who are selected by the Hofstra Law School.

About the Hart Scholars:

Kaitlyn Flynn of Mineola, will begin working as an Assistant District Attorney at the Queens County District Attorney’s Office in August 2014.  Ms. Flynn took park in the Courtroom Advocates Project, Student Advocate in 2011 and was part of the Mock Trial Enrichment Program from 2011-12.  She has received a number of honors including National Trial Competition Regional Competitor, 2014; Peter James Johnson National Civil Rights Trial Competition Winner, 2013; Baylor University School of Law National Top Gun Trial Competition Finalist, 2013; New York State Bar Association Tiffany Cup Recipient, 2013; National Trial Competition Regional Co-Champion, 2012 & 2013; National Institute Trial Advocacy Student & Kessler Scholarship Award Recipient, 2013; Golden Gate University Professor Bernie Segal Mock Trial Competition Team Semi-Finalist, 2012; Golden Gate University Professor Bernie Segal Mock Trial Competition Top Advocate Round 3, 2012; National Trial Competition Best Opening Statement of Region 2, 2012; National Trial Competition 9th Placed Team Nationally, 2012;.Hofstra Trial Advocacy Association Fall Intramural Competition Best Overall Advocate & Team Finalist, 2011; and 4 Time Outstanding Attorney Award Winner, American Mock Trial Association, 2007-2010;

Jana McNulty of Mineola, will begin working as a public defender with the Nassau Legal Aid in September 2014.  Ms. McNulty was Vice President of the Hofstra Trial Advocacy Association and a member of the Public Justice Foundation, Fellow 2013 and the E. David Woycik, Jr. Intensive Trial Techniques Program.  She has received a number of honors including Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition, June 2014; Peter J. Johnson National Civil Rights Trial Competition, First Place, Fall 2013; Texas Young Lawyer’s Association National Trial Competition; Best in Region II, Tiffany Cup Winner, Spring 2013; Texas Young Lawyer’s Association National Trial Competition; Regional Champion, Best Direct Examination, Spring 2013; Golden Gate University Criminal Mock Trial Competition, Semi-Finalist, Fall 2012; Texas Young Lawyer’s Association National Trial Competition, Regional Finalist,Spring 2012; Intramural Mock Trial Competition, Best Overall Advocate,Spring 2012; and Intramural Mock Trial Competition, Semi-Finalist, Fall 2011.
