On March 6, 2017, Stuart Gordon, Matthew Spero, Jeannine Farino and Viktoriya Kruglyak participated as Preliminary Judges in the Twenty-Fifth Annual Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition this past weekend. The competition is widely recognized as one of the nation’s preeminent moot court competitions. More than 60 law school teams participate, making this the largest single site appellate moot court competition. Each year the problem raises two hot topics in chapter 11 practice. This year the problem involved two cutting edge issues in corporate bankruptcy: the validity of third party releases and the use of the doctrine of equitable mootness to block plan appeals. The competition was followed by The Gala Awards Dinner sponsored by St. John’s School of Law and the American Bankruptcy Institute.
