George DeHaven Obtains a Directed Verdict in Client’s Favor

February 26, 2013 | Appeals

George DeHaven, a partner in the firm’s Litigation & Appeals Practice Group, obtained a directed verdict in the client’s favor at the close of the evidence in a trip and fall case involving a defective catch basin on a Town of Hempstead street. The plaintiff was pursuing a novel theory of liability to distinguish the case from existing and long-standing precedent. After all the evidence was presented before Judge Winslow in Supreme Court, Nassau County, Mr. DeHaven moved for a directed verdict and dismissal of the complaint, which, after extensive oral argument, was granted.
