Alan S. Rutkin has been named the 2018 recipient of the John Alan Appleman Award from the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (FDCC). The award recognizes the Substantive Law Section Chair who has made the most outstanding contribution to the advancement of the FDCC’s educational goals through the work of his or her Section.

Presented annually since 1984, the award carries the name of the late John Alan Appleman, a distinguished and widely recognized insurance law scholar who served as President of the Federation from 1950 to 1952. The recipient is chosen by the President based on the recommendation of the Chair and Vice Chairs of the Projects and Objectives Committee.

John Alan Appleman was a towering figure in the world of insurance law.  I’m honored to receive an award named after him,” said Alan.

Alan handles every aspect of insurance coverage law. He has represented insurance companies in coverage matters for 30 years, successfully resolving more than 100 major claims involving the environment, energy, policyholder-owned insurers and other complex issues. He also writes insurance policies.
