Michael LiPetri is an Associate in Rivkin Radler’s General Liability, Insurance Coverage and Medical Malpractice Defense Practice Groups, where he represents landowners, landlords and management companies in cases involving premises liability, construction accidents and asbestos exposure, as well as insurers in intricate coverage issues emerging out of homeowner and commercial insurance policies.
Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Michael worked as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the New York City Law Department in the Manhattan Borough Unit where he defended the City of New York and its agencies in civil litigation including the New York City Police Department and the New York City Fire Department. As an Assistant Corporation Counsel, Michael managed a vast caseload of over 150 cases, conducted dozens of depositions and defended the City at trial securing multiple victories and savings on behalf of the City.
While at Albany Law School of Union University, Michael interned as a law clerk for the Honorable Christian F. Hummel in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and interned in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. Michael served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Albany Government Law Review publishing articles on government and policy-related issues such as drones and the link between crime and mental illness. An avid competitor, Michael was a participant in numerous moot court competitions where he was awarded Best Oral Advocate for his performance in the Domenick L. Gabrielli Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Competition and was a finalist in the Karen C. McGovern Senior Prize Trials Competition. Subsequently, Michael was inducted into the national Order of Barristers for his moot court accomplishments.

In 2017, Michael became a recipient of Long Island Business News’ 30 Under 30 Award, which recognizes professionals under the age of 30 who contribute to the Long Island community through public service and who have made significant strides in business.
While not practicing law, Michael spends his time helping his community through various organizations. He is a member of the Sons of Italy Columbus Lodge, the Knights of Columbus Maria Regina Council, Sons of Amvets Post 88, and the Massapequa Lions. Additionally, Michael teaches a public speaking course for the Massapequa Adult Continuing Education Program. He is a member of the Massapequa Chamber of Commerce.
The Insurance Coverage Practice Group since 2016 has been included in the Chambers USA directory in the Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Insurer category. In addition, the group is included in the 2016 Best’s Directory of Recommended Insurance Attorneys.
