Margarita Christoforou is an Associate in Rivkin Radler’s Health Services Practice Group.  Margarita represents various healthcare entities, including hospital systems, medical groups and physician practices, long-term care providers, ambulatory surgery centers, Management Services Organizations (MSOs), Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), Independent Practice Associations (IPAs), Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and health insurance companies, as well as other organizations affiliated with the health care industry.

Margarita focuses her practice on a broad range of regulatory and transactional matters within the healthcare industry.  She regularly counsels clients on matters in connection with corporate formation, mergers and acquisitions, physician employment agreements, provider contracting with the New York State Department of Health and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, vendor agreements and regulatory compliance programs, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”), Stark, Anti-Kickback Law and the False Claims Act.

Prior to joining Rivkin Radler, Margarita served as in-house counsel at a large multi-specialty physician practice group where she worked as the legal lead in physician practice acquisitions, vendor contract review, and compliance research.  In addition, she worked with a team of executives to build, from the ground up, two subsidiary insurance companies, an Article 44 HMO and an Article 42 commercial line of business. Margarita also worked closely with the Director of Contracting and Business Solutions to negotiate a variety of Provider Contracts including Shared Savings Agreements, Fee For Service Agreements and Value Base Contracts.
