Louis D’Amaro has over three decades of experience in commercial real estate acquisitions and financing, zoning, and commercial leasing. He is of counsel to the firm’s Real Estate, Zoning & Land Use Practice Group and routinely advises clients on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions.

Lou drafts and negotiates all types of real estate documents and conducts complex commercial real estate closings. Lou also has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating commercial leases for business clients including major retailers. He is also experienced in local zoning and planning matters and is the former chairman of the Babylon Town Zoning Board of Appeals.

In December of 2017, Lou completed his sixth and final term (due to term limits) in the Suffolk County Legislature.  In the last four years of his tenure, Lou served as Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee. Prior to that, he was Chairman of the Legislature’s Ways and Means Committee and Vice Chairman of the Environment, Planning and Agriculture Committee. Lou also served on several other legislative committees including the Education & Information Technology Committee and the Human Services Committee.

Prior to joining the Legislature, Lou was in private practice and also served as an assistant town attorney for the Town of Babylon, a member of the Suffolk County Judicial Facilities Agency and as an informal advisor to the Suffolk County Executive’s Labor Advisory Board. Lou has also served as a congressional aide in Washington, D.C., as a staff member to a New York State assemblyman, and as a Suffolk County senior legislative aide.

Lou received the 2007 Government Leader of the Year Award from the Route 110 Redevelopment Corporation, the 2009 Public Service Award from the Cold Spring Hills Civic Association and the 2009 Thursday’s Child Community Service Award. He also has been honored by the Long Island NAACP ACT-SO Program, the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, the Almost Home Animal Rescue and the Huntington Marine Corps League.
