Louis D’Amaro, a member of the Suffolk County Legislature, has nearly three decades of experience in commercial real estate, zoning, and litigation.
In 2013, Lou won re-election to a sixth term in the Suffolk County Legislature, where he represents the 17th Legislative District. He is the chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee and serves on the legislature’s Education & Information Technology and Human Services Committees. His prior appointments include chairman of the legislature’s Ways & Means Committee and vice chairman of the Environment, Planning and Agriculture Committee.
Lou was an assistant town attorney for the Town of Babylon and a past chairman of the Town of Babylon Zoning Board of Appeals.
Lou also has served as a congressional aide in Washington, D.C., as a staff member to a New York State assemblyman, and as a senior legislative aide. In addition, he has served as a member of the Suffolk County Judicial Facilities Agency and as an informal advisor to the county executive’s Labor Advisory Board.
Lou is a member of the Sons of Italy Constantino Brumidi Lodge in Deer Park and a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association. He received the 2007 Government Leader of the Year Award from the Route 110 Redevelopment Corporation, the 2009 Public Service Award from the Cold Spring Hills Civic Association, and the 2009 Thursday’s Child Community Service Award.
He also has been honored by the Long Island NAACP ACT-SO Program, the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition, the Almost Home Animal Rescue and the Huntington Marine Corps League.
