Leonard L. Rivkin

Leonard L. Rivkin, the founding partner of Rivkin Radler, has decades of experience as national trial counsel in high profile, landmark, and precedent-setting cases.

Len served as lead counsel on the Agent Orange class action suits and was national coordinating counsel for a major asbestos manufacturer in claims against the United States and the company’s government contractor defense.  He represented a major insurer in one of the largest bank failures in American history. Throughout his career, he has represented insurers’ interests in some of the most challenging environmental-related insurance coverage litigation across the United States.

Len has written articles and presented seminars for the American and New York State Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute, the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel, the Practicing Law Institute, the National Environmental Enforcement Council Journal, and the National Association of Attorneys General, among others. He was the editor-in-chief of the Hazardous Waste and Toxic Tort national monthly newsletter. His book, “May It Please the Court,” was published by Carolina Academic Press, and chronicles his professional life.

An avid boater, Len is a member of the governing board of the New York State Maritime Academy and has published articles on cruising.

Len, who has earned the AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, has been named a 2016 Top Rated Lawyer in Insurance Law by American Lawyer Media. He also has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws by Hofstra University School of Law and has been honored by the American Committee on Soviet Jewry, Long Island Epilepsy Foundation, Boys Town of Italy, Long Island Yeshiva, Cancer Society of the North Palm Beaches, and Shaare Zedek Medical Center of Jerusalem.

He also has been named Honoree of the Year by the Trial Lawyers Division of the UJA-Federation of New York.

Len served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star.

The Insurance Coverage Practice Group since 2016 has been included in the Chambers USA directory in the Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Insurer category. In addition, the group is included in the 2016 Best’s Directory of Recommended Insurance Attorneys.
