Anthony J. LaPorta

Anthony J. LaPorta represents clients in complex commercial litigation.  Anthony’s areas of practice include insurance coverage litigation, professional liability, products liability, premises liability, construction defect, probate litigation, and mediation.

Anthony has represented insurance companies in state and federal courts throughout the country in cases involving environmental contamination, property damage, asbestos, and general liability matters.  He also has represented insurers in coverage disputes involving life, health, and disability insurance, as well as under homeowners’ policies.

In addition to coverage litigation, Anthony often is called on by clients to provide advice and counselling with respect to complex insurance coverage matters and liability issues, as well as to assist with modelling exposures. Anthony also conducts in-person and web-based seminars on new and emerging insurance coverage issues.

Anthony has been appointed by the New Jersey Superior Court to serve as counsel and guardian ad litem for people alleged to be incapacitated.  He has also served as an estate administrator and guardian for persons found to be incapacitated.  He has received pro bono appointments from the New Jersey Superior Court in probate and guardianship matters.

Anthony has been approved by the New Jersey Superior Court as a Rule 1:40 Mediator.  He serves as a mediator on the Early Settlement Panel for the Essex County Superior Court, Chancery Division, Probate Part.

Anthony co-authored the New Jersey Law Chapter of the Defense Research Institute’s 2016 Duty to Defend Compendium.  His article, “A Waste Is A Waste Is A Waste – If It Polluted It Should Be Excluded,” was published in 2014 in the Environmental Claims Journal, 26:4, 348-356.

The Insurance Coverage Practice Group since 2016 has been included in the Chambers USA directory in the Insurance: Dispute Resolution: Insurer category. In addition, the group is included in the 2016 Best’s Directory of Recommended Insurance Attorneys.
